SAILING FOR ALL

Para-Sailing Section

Two Hansa 303 dinghies at the North Basin of Patras Marina

OUR STORY

How It Started

The story begins around 2016, when the club decided to open a para-sailing section. Athletes with disabilities and a club coach tried Hansa dinghies at the Hellenic Sailing Federation’s facilities. At the same time the club joined the federation’s “Sailing for All” programme, funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, as one of five regional clubs selected.

In 2021 the Stavros Niarchos Foundation moved its support directly to six clubs across Greece, ours among them. The same year the Municipality of Patras granted the club two rooms at the marina, now a boat store and changing rooms. Training began on 1 January 2022, when two Hansa 303 dinghies donated by the Foundation arrived.

Today the club runs the programme itself, with the support of its sponsor Super Cargo. It is for people with mobility impairments who want to take up sailing.
