Where is the Sailing Club of Patras?

The Sailing Club of Patras is at Marina Terpsitheas, 26441 Patras, Greece. It has two sites: the Secretariat, the members’ berths and the Para-Sailing Department are at the marina; the training room, boat store, changing rooms and clubhouse are at the main club site.

From what age can my child learn to sail, and how do I enrol?

The Olympic Triangle school takes children and teenagers aged 6–17, on the club’s own Optimist and ILCA dinghies. Training is on Saturdays and Sundays at Terpsithea beach. You need: a child who can swim, an athlete health card signed by a doctor, and parental consent, which is part of the athlete registration form.

How can I learn offshore sailing as an adult?

At the club’s Open Sea Sailing School (ΣΙΑΘ), for ages 17 and over: 20 hours of theory and 56 hours of practice, in beginners, fast-track beginners and advanced classes. The school is recognised by the General Secretariat of Sports and its diplomas have national and international recognition. Each new class is announced in the News.

How do I enter an offshore race?

The boat needs a valid ORC (or IRC) measurement certificate for the year; you do not need to be a member of the club, you pay only the race entry fee. Send the Entry Declaration to the Secretariat before the deadline set in the Notice of Race. Every crew member needs a valid athlete card and an athlete health card.

How do I become a member of the club?

By application to the Board of Directors, co-signed by existing members who propose you. The Board approves it at one of its meetings. For the joining fee and subscription, ask the Secretariat.

Is there sailing for people with disabilities in Patras?

Yes. The club’s Para-Sailing Department is for people with mobility impairments and is based at the North Basin of Patras Marina, with two Hansa 303 dinghies. Training is twice a week: theory, then sailing at sea escorted by a rescue RIB, with a coach specialised in para-sailing.

I am arriving by boat from another port — where do I berth in Patras?

The club’s berths are for its members’ boats. Visitors berth at the municipal Patras Marina: VHF 9, tel. +30 2610 435274; its visitor piers take sailing yachts up to 18 m long with up to 3 m draught (the marina’s figures — confirm before you come).

What is the Ionian Rally (International Ionian Sailing Week)?

A week of offshore racing among the ports and islands of the Ionian Sea, held since 1989. The organising club alternates between Patras and Corfu and the route changes every year. The Notice of Race, entries and results are published on the official website, rallyioniou.gr.

Where do I find the racing calendar and the results?

In the Racing Calendar, kept separately for Open Sea and for the Olympic Triangle. The Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions and the results of each race are on that race’s own page.

When was the Sailing Club of Patras founded and what does it do?

The club was founded in 1980 to promote sailing in the Achaia region. Today it has open-sea, Olympic Triangle (Optimist, ILCA) and para-sailing sections, a sailing school, and it organises races such as the Ionian Rally.
